Stuff The Bus Book Drive
Take a good, hard look at your bookshelves. If you are like many families who love to read, you have accumulated a lot of children’s book. This week, consider donating them to United Way’s Stuff the Bus Book Drive.
United Way is teaming up with local businesses for the Stuff the Bus Book Drive through June 21st. Working together, they are asking Marion County residents to help stuff busses full of new and like-new books to help children in Marion County discover the gift of literacy. more...

MCF 2013 Grants Program now available
Applications for Marion Community Foundation’s 2013 Grants Program are now available to all area not-for-profit agencies and organizations. More than $725,000 in grant funds will be available this year from the 12 funds which generate awards for the competitive grants program.
Applications, which will be due July 26, are available at the Foundation’s offices, 504 S. State St., or online at marioncommunityfoundation.org. Award decisions will be made by the Grants Committee and Board of Trustees by late August. more...

City of Marion Yard Waste Collection Dates
As a reminder to all residents, yard waste collection at curbside for the month of June will occur during the week of June 3 – 7, 2013.
Grass clippings will not be picked up at the curbside. Branches must be bundled and cut in lengths no longer than 5 feet. Curbside pick up for yard waste generally occurs on the day following each resident’s regular trash collection day. With limited personnel, this schedule can and will vary.
Residents are encouraged to drop off grass clippings and yard waste materials, free of charge, to Park Enterprise Construction Co., Inc., located at 560 Barks Rd. W. (between S. Prospect St./Rt. 4 S. and the Barks Rd. overpass). Requirements for grass and yard waste drop off are: more...

City Departmental Closures for Memorial Day
Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that City Departments will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2013 in observance of Memorial Day.
Sanitation crews will not collect trash and recycling on Monday, May 27th. Residents who normally have sanitation services on Monday are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28th. more...
